A mother from Lakewood, New Jersey, has been charged with the tragic deaths of her two young children.
Naomi Elkins, 27, was arrested following a report of two children in cardiac arrest on Tuesday, according to a press release from the Ocean County Prosecutor’s Office on Wednesday.
Emergency responders from Hatzolah, a volunteer Jewish ambulance service, were on the scene when police arrived, attempting to revive the children. Sadly, both children, ages 1 and 3, were pronounced dead at the scene, as reported by the prosecutor’s office.
The investigation revealed that the children had been drowned, with the younger child also suffering stab wounds.
Elkins faces charges including two counts of murder, possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose, and unlawful possession of a weapon. She was arrested without incident, the press release noted.
Records from Ocean County Jail indicate that Elkins is married and holds a master’s degree. She is being held without bail and has a detention hearing scheduled for Monday in Ocean County Superior Court.
